Entry forms available from Sticky Earth Cafe, Church Street, Gifts of Bond Street, Bond Street and The Old Rock Shop Bistro, Hamilton Road.

Completed entry forms should be returned to any of these places by close of business on Monday 17th August 2015.

Prize winners will be announced and prizes presented on Carnival morning, Wednesday 19th August 2015 at the Henry Blogg Gardens, outside Cromer Museum on Church Street, at 10:40.

14:30    Waiters and Waitresses Race - Pier Forecourt.     Load up your tray and see how far you can get, before you spill it.

 

Wednesday 5th August

11:00    Paper Boat, Raft and Plane Racing - North Lodge Park.     Design them, make them, race them!

14:30    Messiest Meal - Pier Forecourt.     Baked beans, jelly, custard!      Things are about to get messy!

 

Thursday 6th August

11:00    Crab Catching - On the pier.     How many can you net, off the pier?

14:30    Record Breakers - Pier Forecourt.     Come and set a record, don't lose your marbles trying!

 

Friday 7th August

11:00    Paint a Stone - Pier Forecourt.     Paints provided. Find your canvas, grab the paint and see where you end up!

11:00    Hunt the Kiddywitches - West Beach.     Rock pool hunt for little crabs, bring a bucket, unlimited sea water available!

14:30    Puppets on the Prom - Pier Forecourt.     No strings attached or there can be! Materials provided.

 

Wednesday 12th August

11:00    Kite Making - Pier Forecourt.     Come fly with me! Materials provided.

14:30    Tide Fight - East Beach.     Build the biggest structure from sand that you can, to repel the tide, last one standing wins! No rocks allowed.

 

Thursday 13th August

11:00    Paint a Crab Shell - Pier Forecourt.     Paint your own Cromer Crab. Shells and paints provided.

14:30    Sand Sculpture - East Beach.     Put your sculpting skills to the test!

 

Friday 14th August

11:00    Scavenger Hunt - Pier Forecourt.     See what you can find. It's not easy!

13:00    Party on the Pier - The Pier.     Bring your own picnic.

14:30    Captain Fantastic - The Pier.     Music and entertainment, by the one and only!

17:00    Cromer's Famous Duck Race - Off the Pier.     Ducks will be available for sale, throughout the day's events.

TRAVELLING BY CAR OR TRAIN

PARK AND RIDE

On Wednesday 19th August 2015 (Carnival Day) there will be no parking facilities within the carnival site, even for car pass holders.

By kind permission of Mr Benjamin Cabbell Manners, there will be a free car park facility with a charged bus ride from Westgate, Holt Road, Cromer (A148), with coaches running all day, including during the procession.

During the day, the drop off point will be the Carnival Field, Runton Road and the collection point will be at the Beach Road bus stop

From 18:15 and during the procession, the coaches will drop off and pick up on the Holt Road, outside Morrisons

The cost is £3.00 per car for the coach journey, in to Cromer and return to Westgate

The coaches are provided free of charge by Sanders Coaches, Holt as their sponsorship of Cromer Carnival


TRAVELLING BY CAR

North Norfolk District Council car parks at The Meadow, Cadogan Road and Runton Road will be open

Car park charges at The Meadow and Cadogan Road will be as normal and can be viewed here

Runton Road car park will be manned by Council staff who will be collecting a daily parking fee and allocating spaces for parking

Your co-operation with the car park attendants will be appreciated

Please note that if you have not left the car park before 18:30, you will be unable to leave before the procession has completed the town circuit. When you leave the car park you may be directed away from the town centre by the police, until the town centre is clear.

If you wish to leave early, you are advised to use the Park and Ride car parking facility.

There is additional parking at Amazona Zoo, Hall Road, Cromer, which will be open from 17:00 on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th August 2015.

We also have a relief car park, located close to the Carnival Field, which will be open on Sunday 16th, Tuesday 18th, Wednesday 19th and the evening of Thursday 20th August 2015.


TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

If you are travelling in from the Norwich or Sheringham areas, why not leave the car at home and travel by train to this year's Cromer Carnival?

Abellio Greater Anglia operates regular train services on the Bittern Line, between Norwich and Sheringham, with all trains calling at Cromer. There will be an hourly service between Cromer and Sheringham, with an additional service from and to Norwich.

A range of cheap day return tickets are available

If joining at an unstaffed station, you can purchase your ticket from the conductor on the train.

After the Carnival Procession on Wednesday evening the last trains to depart from Cromer, are to Sheringham at 23:34 and to Norwich at 23:58 (times correct at time of printing).

PLEASE NOTE

Spectators watching or anybody taking part in any event during Carnival week, do so at their own risk.

 

ALCOHOL ON SITE:

Cromer Carnival is a member of the Pub Watch Scheme and therefore, any person banned under the Pub Watch Scheme will not be served at the Carnival Marquee bar.

During Carnival week, members of the public are asked not to bring alcohol onto the Carnival Field or into the Carnival Marquee.

The Security Guards have permission to question any person entering the Carnival Field or the Carnival Marquee and have instructions to confiscate any alcohol found, unless the alcohol has been purchased from the Carnival Bar.

 

SMOKING:

19:30                The Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band Concert - Parish Hall, Church Street

The Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band has developed a reputation as one of the best bands of its type in the Eastern region. The musicians have diverse musical backgrounds and experience but are never happier than when playing foot-tapping traditional jazz in the style of British bands of the nineteen sixties. The line-up is: John Gooding (cornet), Tim Densham (clarinet and saxophones), Bill Brewer (trombone), Peter Gregory (banjo and guitar) and Liz Underdown (string bass).

The winners from each class will go forward for judging to find the over all winner of the Robin Seeley Memorial Cup.

Robin Seeley had Muscular Dystrophy and was confined to a wheelchair from age 10 to 17 years old, when sadly, he passed away. Robin remained at home with his family, went to school in Cromer and had a great group of friends, being a typical teenager, despite his wheelchair. When Robin died, a disco was held at Cromer Youth Club, which resulted in the purchase of the memorial cup, which has been presented by a member of the family for 27 years.

By kind permission of the Vicar and Churchwardens, Cromer Carnival presents an evening of pleasure with the annual band concert in the Parish Church.

Norwich City Concert Band is delighted to be performing once again, as the Carnival band. This year see's the concert Band in its 18th year; they go from strength to strength, under the direction of their director of music, Brian Dermott.

In 2014 the Band recorded a new CD, which will be on sale at the concert, for £7.00. Their programme on the night will suite all tastes, so come along and enjoy the music!

This year, we offer a welcome return to the team. Formed in 1992, West Lancs Dog Display Team has entertained the crowds at all sorts of events, demonstrating skill and obedience of there dogs.

11:45                The Royal Signal Motorcycle Display Team "The White Helmets"

Back by public demand, with speed, excitement and skill. The team of 30 volunteer soldiers from the Corps, which make up the Royal Signals White Helmets, tour Britain from April to September every year, demonstrating all the personal qualities demanded of the modern Royal Signals soldier.

13:00                The Blades Aerobatic Display Team

The Blades are celebrating a milestone year in 2015, as the Team enters its 10th display season. With five new partners on board, The Blades are sporting a stunning new livery, not like anything the Team has had before, as they mark this historic year.

The Blades display lasts for 15 minutes and includes over 30 exhilarating manoeuvres. Containing a variety of mind-blowing aerobatic stunts flown just feet apart, each and every display is meticulously planned, briefed, executed and debriefed.

This year, The Blades are flying once again under the leadership of Blade 1, Mark Cutmore 'Cutty'. Cutty joined The Blades in 2008 as Blade 3, before spending three years as the Team's solo display pilot and taking over as leader in 2012. The Blade 2 position will be shared by co-founder of The Blades, Andy Offer OBE and Chris Carder. Former Team Leader Myles Garland will be taking up the Blade 3 position and the Team line-up is completed by Andy Evans who is flying the all-important and impressive solo position as Blade 4.

15:30                The Royal Signal Motorcycle Display Team "The White Helmets"

Back by public demand, with speed, excitement and skill. The team of 30 volunteer soldiers from the Corps, which make up the Royal Signals White Helmets, tour Britain from April to September every year, demonstrating all the personal qualities demanded of the modern Royal Signals soldier. Bringing the arena events to an exciting end!

19:00                Cromer Grand Carnival Parade 
Through the Town via Runton Road, Prince of Wales Road, Hamilton Road, Church Street, Mount Street, Louden Road, West Street, Beach Road and returning to the Runton Road car park.

PLEASE NOTE: A percentage of all bucket takings from the collection made at this year's parade will be donated to a local cause, which the committee has decided this year, will be the Theo Babbage Wishing Well Appeal for the NICU Baby Unit and Cromer RNLI. Please help us to support these worthy causes!

Please note that on Carnival Day, cars parked on the Runton Road Car Park after 18:30 will not be able to leave the car park until after the Carnival Parade has finished, at approximately 22:00. All cars leaving the field will be directed right towards Sheringham.

Cromer town road closures will be implemented at 18:30 until 21.00. There will be no traffic movement until the Carnival parade has finished.


Rules and conditions of entry for floats taking part in the procession:

1. All floats and entries taking part in the Carnival Parade should enter via the gateway to the Carnival Field (not the NNDC car park entrance).

2. Distribution of favours and advertising material. No advertising material, edibles, gifts, samples or other object may be thrown or otherwise distributed from any vehicle or elevated float. At the sole discretion of the Parade Organiser favours and advertising material may be distributed on foot, providing no risk is thereby incurred to spectators, particularly children, in relation to moving vehicles, machinery or animals.

3. Entrants are reminded that liquid should not be squirted over either floats or the public.

4. All float organisers are reminded that they should hold Public Liability Insurance for their float display. All floats are required to make sure that their entry is not too wide to go through the town.

5. The safety of all persons riding on floats is the responsibility of the respective float organiser and driver of the float vehicle. The Carnival Committee and Cromer V.E.O Limited cannot be held liable for any accident to any person taking part in the Carnival Procession, unless that accident is the direct result of action by a member of the Carnival Committee or authorised helper, providing such committee member or helper is on duty at the time the instruction was given.

6. Collecting in the Parade can only be made by official Cromer Carnival Collectors. No other fund raising for any other purpose is permitted.

7. Floats wishing to leave the Carnival Procession en route without returning to the Carnival Field must inform the Parade Organiser before their float leaves the Carnival Field. Permission will only be given where the Police on duty agree that it is feasible without causing danger to the spectators.

8. The driver of any vehicle should hold a driving license in respect of the vehicle used 
(i.e. HGV License for HGV licensed vehicle).

9. Commercial organisations are limited to two vehicles each and these must be decorated.

  • Drop the Clutch are an amazing local four-piece rock covers band from the North Norfolk coast. Formed in 2010, they have been playing together in pubs and clubs entertaining punters, with a powerful mix of popular classic rock tunes.

Judging will be based upon, complexity of trick/stunt, execution of trick/stunt, use of the park, style, but above all effort & enjoyment.

18:30                Life Saving Demonstration - By the North Norfolk Life Saving Club - East Beach

This demonstration, performed by local surf lifesavers from North Norfolk Surf Lifesaving Club (www.nnslsc.org.uk) will show you what surf lifesaving is all about and how you can get involved.

The idea of the sport, is to combine staying fit in the sea with a purpose; saving lives - Sport with Purpose. Some of our best lifesavers will be demonstrating a variety of rescues and races for you, with commentary so everyone can understand.

We run open access classes (for everyone) and junior programmes from our clubhouse on the promenade. The club is always looking for enthusiastic new members to support us and there has never been a more exciting time to get involved, with our facility in the best location, right on Cromer beach!

Two teams from the RAF Regiment Reserves at RAF Marham battle against each other in a military skills challenge to see who can be crowned the Champions.

20:15                Live Music - Parallel Times - Carnival Marquee, Runton Road

Parallel Times is Norfolk's Blondie tribute band featuring Julie Bunn as Debbie Harry. Already a renowned solo artist, Julie has been performing Blondie hits to live audiences since 2008. Now she is backed by experienced musicians, Parallel Times, who have not only performed as a group, but as individuals, in a wide variety of bands over many years.

20:30                Illuminated Parade - to Carnival Arena, Runton Road

Led by The Romford Drum and Trumpet Corp.

The parade winds its way from Meadow Road to Runton Road, via Hamilton Road, Church Street, High Street and Runton Road.

21:15 (approx)  Grand Fireworks Display - Carnival Field, Runton Road

The finale will be to music from the Last Night of the Proms.

Cromer Carnival welcome FireWire!

Headlining again, we welcome back FireWire, Norfolk's premier party rock covers band. Playing classic, punk, ska and current chart hits, they'll have everyone dancing from the word go.

There is a special cup for the overall winner of the fancy dress competition, on the night, sponsored by John and Jeanie Hedge in memory of Simon Hedge.

Fancy dress judging will start at 22:00

Must be 18 years of age or over - ID will be requested on entering the Carnival field and marquee.
